Motor protection circuit breaker, Class 10, 100 kA
The Siemens 3RV1011-1EA10-ZW96 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for protecting three-phase induction motors against overload, short-circuit, and phase failure. Its Class 10 trip characteristic means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the thermal setting — fast enough to protect standard motors during start-up without nuisance tripping. The 100 kA breaking capacity at both 240 V and 400 V means it can safely interrupt fault currents up to that level without cascading upstream, which simplifies coordination in high-fault panels.
Panel integration and mounting
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. At 45 mm wide and 75 mm deep, it fits standard motor starter combinations alongside contactors in the same rail footprint. The M3 screw terminals for the main circuit accept 2× (0.5…1.5 mm²) or 2× (0.75…2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire. Clearance requirements: 20 mm upwards, 20 mm downwards, 9 mm at the side, 0 mm forwards and backwards.
Key protection features
Phase failure detection is built in — critical for preventing single-phasing damage on delta-connected motors. No ground fault detection. The rated operational voltage range is 20…690 V. Operating temperature range -20…+60 °C, storage -50…+80 °C. Maximum switching frequency in AC-3 duty is 15 operations per hour. For short-circuit protection coordination, at 400 V use a gL/gG 40 A backup fuse; at 500 V and 690 V, gL/gG 35 A.
