What this breaker does on the line
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RV1011-1EA20-ZW98 is a 3-pole motor protection circuit breaker rated for 4 A continuous current and a 1.5 kW motor at 400 V AC. Its Class 10 trip characteristic means it clears overloads fast enough to protect standard induction motors during start-up — no nuisance tripping on inrush, but a locked-rotor condition gets caught inside 10 seconds at 7.2× Ie. That 100 kA breaking capacity at 400 V AC gives you full selectivity on most distribution panels without needing an upstream fuse for SCCR compliance. Phase failure detection is built in — if one leg drops, the breaker trips, which matters on delta-connected motors that can single-phase and burn up without a visible overload. No ground-fault detection here, so plan for a separate GF relay if the circuit requires it.
Mounting and wiring — what fits
Snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 90 mm height are standard for this SIRIUS frame size; depth is 81 mm — check that against your enclosure depth, especially if a door-mounted operator or auxiliary block goes on the front. Zero clearance needed at the back or sides, so you can pack breakers tight on the rail. Any mounting position works. Main circuit terminals are spring-loaded, accepting solid or stranded copper: 2x (0.25…2.5 mm²) solid, or 2x (0.25…1.5 mm²) finely stranded with ferrule. AWG equivalent is 24–14. No screw torque to set — strip 8–10 mm, push in. The auxiliary switch is present but no auxiliary contacts are built into the base unit; if you need a signal contact, order a separate auxiliary switch block.
Breaking capacity — where it holds
Rated short-circuit breaking capacity drops with voltage: 100 kA at 240 V and 400 V AC, then 3 kA at 500 V, and 2 kA at 690 V. The rated insulation voltage is 690 V, so the breaker is physically rated for 690 V systems — but the interrupting rating at that voltage is only 2 kA. In a 480 V panel you get the full 100 kA; at 600 V you're down to 3 kA. Check your available fault current at the point of installation before committing the BOM line.
