Motor protection circuit breaker for 480/600 V lines
The Siemens 3RV1011-1GA10-ZW97 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection, with a Class 10 trip characteristic that clears overloads fast enough to protect standard induction motors during start-up. Rated 6.3 A at both 480 V and 600 V, it covers fractional to small-horsepower motors — the 230 V rating maps to 0.5 hp, 200/208 V to 1 hp, and 220/230 V to 1.5 hp. Breaking capacity hits 100 kA at 240 V and 400 V, dropping to 3 kA at 500 V and 2 kA at 690 V — the 100 kA figure means it can interrupt a bolted fault on a high-capacity transformer without upstream fuses needing to clear first.
DIN rail fit and wiring
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, in any position. Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 90 mm high, 75 mm deep — the 45 mm width occupies two standard 22.5 mm module spaces on the rail. Clearance requirements: 20 mm upwards and downwards, 9 mm to the side, zero forwards and backwards — tight panel layouts can push against those limits. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded copper; the main contact screws are M3.
Coordination and selectivity notes
For backup protection, the required upstream fuse changes with voltage: none needed at 240 V, gL/gG 50 A at 400 V, gL/gG 40 A at both 500 V and 690 V — a detail that matters when coordinating a panel with mixed voltage levels. Phase failure detection is built in, ground fault detection is not — the breaker will trip on a lost phase but won't catch a ground leak without an add-on module. Maximum operating frequency in AC-3 duty is 15 operations per hour — fine for a pump or fan cycling a few times an hour, not for a rapid-reversing conveyor.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Operating temperature range is -20 to +60 °C; storage and transport range is -50 to +80 °C. Rated operational voltage spans 20 to 690 V, covering most low-voltage motor control schemes worldwide.
