SIRIUS motor-protection circuit breaker — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3RV1011-1JA10-ZW95 is a SIRIUS motor-protection circuit breaker designed for three-phase induction motors. Its Trip Class 10 means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the thermal setting — the standard for standard-duty motor starting where the load is a pump, fan, or conveyor and the acceleration time stays under a few seconds. Phase failure detection is built in, so a lost phase on the line side will cause the breaker to open rather than let the motor single-phase and overheat. The rated voltage range spans 20 to 690 V, covering 400 V and 480 V industrial supplies as well as 240 V control circuits. Breaking capacity is the headline number for a motor-protection breaker: at 240 V it interrupts 100 kA, at 400 V it handles 13 kA, at 500 V it's rated 3 kA, and at 690 V it manages 2 kA. For a 400 V panel with a typical 10 kA SCCR requirement, this breaker provides headroom. The gL/gG fuse coordination values are also given — at 240 V the maximum backup fuse is 80 A, at 400 V it's 63 A, at 500 V and 690 V it's 50 A — so the integrator can size the upstream fuse for selectivity without exceeding the breaker's withstand.
Panel integration and mounting
Mounting is screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. The 45 mm width is the standard SIRIUS double-module footprint — two 22.5 mm slots on the rail. Depth is 75 mm, height 90 mm. Clearances: 20 mm upwards, 20 mm downwards, 9 mm at the sides, zero forwards or backwards. The mounting position is any, so vertical or horizontal rail orientation is acceptable. Terminals accept 2×(0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2×(0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded, with M3 screws for the main contacts.
Temperature ratings and storage
Operating ambient temperature range is -20 to +60 °C. Storage and transport range is -50 to +80 °C. The storage limit governs handling and warehousing, not running conditions — the part can sit in a cold warehouse or hot truck without damage.
