Motor protection circuit breaker — 4 A, CLASS 10, 100 kA SCCR
The Siemens 3RV1021-1EA15-ZW98 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker rated for 4 A continuous current with a CLASS 10 trip characteristic, designed for screw and snap-on mounting onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. Its short-circuit breaking capacity reaches 100 kA at 240 V, 400 V, and 500 V AC, dropping to 6 kA at 690 V AC — sufficient for most industrial distribution panels where the available fault current stays under 100 kA at 400 V. The motor rating at 400 V is 1.5 kW, making this a fit for small three-phase induction motors on pumps, fans, or conveyors where the full-load current sits at or below 4 A.
Trip class and thermal behaviour
CLASS 10 means the bimetal trip opens within 10 seconds at 7.2× the current setting — standard for standard-duty motor starting where the acceleration time is under 10 seconds. For longer ramp times (high-inertia loads), a CLASS 20 or CLASS 30 trip would be needed.
Clearance: 0 mm backwards, 0 mm at the sides — no additional air gap required for adjacent units. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting solid conductors of 2× (0.5…1.5 mm²) and 2× (0.75…2.5 mm²), and stranded conductors of 2× (1…2.5 mm²) and 2× (2.5…6 mm²). The auxiliary switch is transverse design with 0 built-in auxiliary contacts; an add-on block is required if signalling the breaker state is needed.
Mechanical endurance of the main contacts is 100 000 operations typical; maximum switching rate at AC-3 is 15 operations per hour.
