Motor protection circuit breaker, 5 A, Class 10 — panel integration notes
The Siemens 3RV1021-1FA10-ZW96 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection, rated 5 A continuous current with a Class 10 trip characteristic. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 and occupies 45 mm width, 97 mm height, and 96 mm depth — a standard single-module footprint for a three-pole breaker. The IP20 front protection means the operator side is finger-safe, but the terminals are live when the breaker is on, so panel builders should treat the wiring compartment as exposed. Breaking capacity is 100 kA at 400 V AC and also at 240 V and 500 V AC, dropping to 6 kA at 690 V AC. That 100 kA at 400 V means it can interrupt a bolted fault on a high-capacity distribution board without upstream fuses needing to clear — a strong SCCR for a compact motor starter feeder. The AC-3 rated voltage max is 690 V, so it can switch motor loads on 400 V or 480 V systems with headroom. Phase failure detection is built in, so the breaker will trip on a lost phase — essential for preventing single-phasing damage on three-phase motors. No ground fault detection, so that function must come from a separate module or upstream RCD. The auxiliary switch extension is available for remote status feedback; the screw-type terminals on both main and auxiliary circuits accept solid or stranded wire from 1 to 6 mm² (2x per terminal) or AWG 14–10, which covers most panel wiring up to the 5 A rating.
Compliance and environmental
RoHS compliance date is 01.05.2012, which covers the current EU RoHS directive. The breaker is rated for operation from -20 to +60 °C and storage/transport from -50 to +80 °C. Shock resistance is 25 g for 11 ms, adequate for standard industrial panel vibration. Mounting position is any, so it can be installed horizontally or vertically without derating the trip curve.
