Motor protection circuit breaker, 6.3 A, CLASS 10, 100 kA SCCR
The Siemens 3RV1021-1GA15-ZW97 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker rated for 6.3 A continuous current with a CLASS 10 trip characteristic, sized for a 2.2 kW motor at 400 V AC. It breaks up to 100 kA at 240 V, 400 V, and 500 V AC, dropping to 6 kA at 690 V AC — the 100 kA SCCR means it safely interrupts fault currents up to that level without cascading upstream, critical for panel coordination. Phase failure detection is built in; ground fault detection is not. The front face carries an IP20 rating, so the breaker is touch-safe in an enclosure but not washdown-rated.
Mounting and wiring — DIN rail, screw terminals, clearances
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022. Zero clearance required at the back and sides — 0 mm backwards, 0 mm at the side — so it packs tight in a panel. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting solid conductors 2x (0.5…1.5 mm²) and 2x (0.75…2.5 mm²), and stranded 2x (1…2.5 mm²) and 2x (2.5…6 mm²). Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 97 mm high, 96 mm deep — a standard 45 mm module width that fits alongside other SIRIUS components on the same rail.
Electrical ratings — what they mean for the panel
Rated operational voltage is 690 V, with maximum switching at AC-3 duty up to 690 V. The CLASS 10 trip class means it disconnects within 10 seconds at 7.2× the thermal setting — standard for standard-duty motor starting where the inrush doesn't linger. The auxiliary switch is transverse design; the breaker accepts zero factory-fitted auxiliary contacts (0 for auxiliary contacts), but an add-on block can be wired in. Power dissipation at rated current in hot state is 7.25 W — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations. Mechanical endurance of the main contacts is 100,000 operations typical. Operating temperature range is -20 to +60 °C; storage and transport range is -50 to +80 °C. Maximum operating altitude is 2,000 m without derating.
