SIRIUS 3RV1021-1JA10-ZW97 — Motor Protection Circuit Breaker, 10 A, CLASS 10
The Siemens 3RV1021-1JA10-ZW97 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection, rated at 10 A continuous current and 4 kW at 400 V AC-3 duty. Its CLASS 10 trip characteristic means it disconnects within 10 seconds at 7.2× rated current — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal starts. Breaking capacity is 100 kA at 240 V and 400 V AC, dropping to 42 kA at 500 V and 6 kA at 690 V. That 100 kA at 400 V is the figure that governs most industrial panel SCCR calculations — it lets this breaker sit upstream of smaller branch devices without requiring a current-limiting fuse ahead of it. Phase failure detection is built in. If one phase drops out, the breaker trips — preventing single-phasing damage to the motor. Ground fault detection is not included, so for applications requiring GF protection, an external module or separate GF relay is needed.
Mounting and Integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 96 mm depth fit standard panel layouts. Any mounting position is allowed, which simplifies layout in tight enclosures. Front face carries IP20 protection — touch-safe for the operator side, but not sealed against dust ingress into the panel. Main circuit connections are screw-type terminals. Solid and stranded conductors: 2x (1 … 2.5 mm²) or 2x (2.5 … 6 mm²) per terminal. AWG equivalents for main contacts: 2x (14 … 10). No auxiliary contacts are factory-fitted, but an auxiliary switch can be added.
Environmental and Durability
Operating temperature range is -20 to +60 °C; storage and transport range is -50 to +80 °C. Shock resistance rated at 25 g for 11 ms. Mechanical endurance of the main contacts is typically 100,000 operations. Power dissipation at rated current in hot operating state is 9.25 W total, 3.1 W per pole.
