What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RV2011-0FA15-ZW97 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection in industrial control panels. It combines a circuit breaker and overload relay in one device, providing short-circuit and overload protection for motors up to 0.1 kW at 230 V. Trip Class 10 means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current, which is the standard for standard induction motor starting — it lets the motor accelerate without nuisance tripping but clears a stalled rotor fast enough to protect the winding. Rated breaking capacity of 100 kA at 400 V means it can safely interrupt a fault current of that magnitude without welding contacts or cascading failure upstream — sized for high-fault panels where the available short-circuit current is substantial. Built-in phase failure detection protects the motor from single-phasing, which is a common cause of winding burnout on three-phase lines. No ground fault detection — that's handled separately if required.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. Width is 45 mm — a standard 2-module footprint that fits most panel layouts. Depth is 97 mm, which is typical for this class and leaves room for wiring behind the gland plate. Mounting position is any, so it can go sideways or upside-down in tight enclosures without derating. Terminal screws for main contacts are M3, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded copper. Clearance distances: 50 mm upwards and downwards, 30 mm at the sides, 0 mm forwards and backwards — the forward/backward zero means it can be stacked flush against the panel door or backplane, saving space.
