The Siemens 3RV2031-4VA10-ZW97 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection in control panels. It carries a Class 10 trip characteristic, meaning it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the thermal setting — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal starts. Rated breaking capacity at 400 V is 30 kA, which covers most industrial distribution panels with transformer ratings up to around 2 MVA. At 690 V the interrupting rating drops to 2 kA, so verify the available fault current at the point of installation if used on a 690 V line. Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 60715. The 55 mm width and 149 mm depth fit standard panel layouts; clearance requirements are 50 mm upward, 50 mm downward, and 10 mm to the side — no extra space needed forward or backward.
Integration Notes
Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept 2×(1–25 mm²) or 1×(1–35 mm²) solid or stranded copper. Terminal size M6 for the main contacts. Phase failure detection is built in; ground fault detection is not. Temperature compensation is active across the -20 to +60 °C operating range. Maximum switching frequency under AC-3 duty is 15 operations per hour — adequate for motor starting applications but not for high-cycling loads like rapid reversing or jogging. For higher duty cycles, consider a contactor with a higher mechanical life rating.
