The Siemens 3RW3017-2BB14 is a SIRIUS soft starter in frame size S00, rated 12.5 A at 40 °C, with a control supply voltage of 110 to 230 VDC. It uses thyristor-based ramp control to limit inrush current during motor start-up, reducing mechanical stress on the driven load and electrical stress on the supply line. The integrated bypass contact system switches the thyristors out after start, so the unit runs cool and avoids continuous heat dissipation during normal operation — a real advantage in a crowded panel.
The minimum load is 10 % of the motor FLA, so it won't work well on fractional-horsepower motors below that threshold; a smaller soft starter or a direct-on-line contactor is a better fit for very light loads.
Main current circuit uses spring-loaded terminals, accepting 2x 0.25 to 2.5 mm² solid. Auxiliary and control circuits are also spring-loaded, with a range of 2x 24 to 14 AWG. The front clamping point handles 2x 16 to 10 AWG for larger power wiring. Maximum wire length to the motor is 300 m — beyond that, voltage drop and cable capacitance can affect thyristor commutation; keep runs shorter if possible.
