45 A at 40 °C — the current rating that matters
The 3RW3036-2BB14 is rated 45 A at 40 °C ambient, which is the continuous motor full-load current it can start and run through the integrated bypass. The integrated bypass contact system means the thyristors are shorted out once the motor reaches full speed — the 45 A rating applies to the bypass contacts, not just the silicon. This eliminates the continuous heat load of the SCRs during run, which is the main reason soft starters need derating in enclosed panels. Minimum load is 10 % of the rated current — so it can start lightly loaded conveyors or pumps without the motor seeing a hard start. Below that, the current sensing may not reliably detect the motor state.
Panel fit — size S2, screw or snap-on
Size S2 frame with dimensions 55 mm wide, 160 mm high, 170 mm deep. The width is the critical panel-space number — at 55 mm it fits a standard 6-module DIN-rail pitch. Mounting is screw and snap-on: the DIN-rail clip is standard, but the screw holes let you bolt it to a backplate if vibration is a concern. Clearance requirements: 60 mm above, 40 mm below, 30 mm at the sides. These are for airflow — the thyristor heat sink needs that space to stay within the -25 to +60 °C operating range. Storage range is -40 to +80 °C. The mixed termination — screw for power, spring for control — is standard for this class: the spring terminals save wiring time on the low-current signals.
Control voltage and motor cable reach
Control supply voltage accepts 110-230 V DC — a wide-range input that covers common DC bus voltages in industrial panels. No external reset function; the starter resets via the control supply cycle or a remote signal on the spring-terminal block. Maximum motor cable length is 300 m. This is the total run from the starter to the motor — beyond that, voltage drop and reflected-wave effects on the motor insulation become a concern. For long cable runs in conveyor or pump applications, keep the total under this limit. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means the starter is rated for industrial environments with conductive dust or occasional condensation — no additional conformal coating needed for most panel installations.
