80 A at 40 °C — what the current ratings actually mean
The 3RW3046-2BB04: That 40 °C reference point is the standard enclosure ambient — if your panel runs hotter, the usable current drops by roughly 9 % per 10 °C rise above 40 °C. Plan the motor FLA against the derated figure at your actual panel ambient, not the headline 80 A. The minimum load is 10 % of the rated current, so it won't regulate down to near-zero current for a lightly loaded motor. If the connected load is under 8 A at 40 °C, this soft starter may not fire the thyristors reliably.
Panel fit and wiring — size S3, screw terminals, wire ranges
Size S3 frame: 170 mm high, 70 mm wide, 190 mm deep. Mounts with screws or snaps onto DIN rail. The vertical mounting surface allows ±10° rotation and ±10° tilt front-to-back — useful for angled subpanels but not for horizontal or upside-down installation. Main circuit terminals accept 2x (10 … 70 mm²) stranded or 2x (10 … 50 mm²) finely stranded copper. All are screw-type — torque them to the value on the terminal marking, not by feel. The back and front clamping points each accept 10 … 2/0 AWG. Clearance around the unit: 60 mm above, 40 mm below, 30 mm at the sides. That's the minimum for airflow and wiring access — tighter spacing forces derating.
