Continuous current and the thermal envelope
The 3RW4037-1BB15: Derates to 58 A at 50 °C and 53 A at 60 °C, so the enclosure ventilation and the ambient temperature inside the panel govern whether this S2 frame holds the line without tripping the internal thermal model. The 55 mm width on a TS35 DIN rail means it occupies one standard slot in a multi-starter lineup. Depth of 170 mm and height of 160 mm — the vertical clearance above and below the unit is 60 mm upward and 40 mm downward for air circulation and cable bending radius.
Control supply and motor protection — what is built in
Control supply voltage is 110-230 V DC — a range that covers the common station battery voltages (110 VDC and 125 VDC in power plants, 220 VDC in some industrial DC grids) without an external DC-DC converter. Operating frequency is 50-60 Hz, so the soft starter is indifferent to the line frequency of the motor. Motor overload protection is integrated, and the current limitation is adjustable down to 20% of the rated current. That means one device handles both the starting ramp and the running overload — no separate overload relay to size, wire, and set. The integrated bypass contact system carries the full-load current once the ramp is complete, taking the thyristors out of the circuit and eliminating the heat they would otherwise dissipate during continuous running.
Termination and wiring — screw-type terminals, dual clamping points
Auxiliary and control circuits also use screw-type terminals, with the auxiliary contact range 2x (20-14 AWG). The dual clamping points on the main terminals let you land two conductors per pole — useful for daisy-chaining the line feed through the soft starter to a downstream device without a separate terminal block.
Mounting position and environmental limits
Fastening method is screw and snap-on mounting — snaps onto a TS35 DIN rail without tools, or can be screw-mounted to a backplate. With the additional fan fitted, the mounting surface can be vertical and rotated ±90°, or tilted ±22.5° front-to-back. Without the fan, the rotation is limited to ±10°. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means it is rated for conductive pollution environments — typical for industrial control panels that are not hermetically sealed.
