106 A at 40 °C — the derating curve governs the real load
The 3RW4047-1BB05: The 16 A drop across that 20 °C window means the panel ambient temperature — not the motor FLA — decides whether this frame holds the continuous current. At 50 °C the rating is 98 A; if the enclosure runs hot, step up a frame or add forced ventilation. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means it tolerates conductive dust and humidity typical of industrial panels — no derating for environment unless the enclosure is sealed and unventilated.
Mounting and clearance — the panel layout constraints
Dimensions are 170 mm high, 70 mm wide, 190 mm deep. The S3 footprint fits a standard DIN rail or screw-fixed backplate — the fastening method accepts both screw and snap-on mounting. Clearance above the unit is 60 mm, below 40 mm, and to the side 30 mm; those gaps are for airflow and busbar access, not optional. Mounting position rules depend on whether an additional fan is fitted. With the fan, the unit can be rotated ±90° on a vertical surface and tilted ±22.5° front-to-back. Without the fan, rotation is limited to ±10° and tilt to ±10°. If the panel layout forces an off-vertical orientation, budget for the fan option or accept the tighter envelope.
Terminal capacity and motor cable reach
Solid conductors are limited to 2.5 mm² — that is for control wiring, not the power loop. The maximum motor cable length is 300 m; beyond that, reflected-wave stress on the motor insulation becomes a consideration, even with a soft starter's ramp.
Protection and control — built-in overload and current limit
Motor overload protection is integrated, so no separate overload relay is needed in the power circuit. The adjustable current limitation sets the starting current ceiling as a percentage of the rated current — minimum load is 20%. The external reset input allows remote fault clearing, which keeps the starter in the control loop rather than requiring a panel walk. Intrinsic device protection covers the thyristors against overtemperature and phase imbalance. The derating temperature threshold is 40 °C — above that, the current values in the spec table are the binding limits.
