Rated current and thermal derating — 106 A at 40 °C
The 3RW4047-2BB04: This derating curve sets the usable motor FLA for a given enclosure temperature — at 50 °C ambient, a 98 A motor is the ceiling, not 106 A. The control circuit is 24 V AC/DC, 50/60 Hz, with a 20% minimum load requirement — below that, the thyristor firing angle may not maintain conduction.
Mounting and panel integration — Size S3, screw and snap-on
Size S3 frame: 170 mm high, 70 mm wide, 190 mm deep. Fastening method is screw and snap-on mounting to DIN rail. Clearance requirements: 60 mm upwards, 40 mm downwards, 30 mm at the side — these are the minimum air gaps for heat dissipation and wiring access. Mounting position is flexible: with an additional fan, the unit can be mounted on a vertical surface with +/-90° rotation and +/-22.5° tilt front/back. Without the fan, the envelope tightens to +/-10° rotation and +/-10° tilt. The derating temperature threshold is 40 °C — above that, the current ratings in the spec table apply.
Terminal capacity and wiring — screw-type, dual clamping points
Main circuit terminals accept stranded wire 2x (10... 70 mm²) and finely stranded 2x (10... 50 mm²). Both front and back clamping points accept 2x (10... 1/0) AWG; using both clamping points together accepts 10... 2/0 AWG. Maximum wire length to the motor is 300 m. The insulation voltage is rated 600 V, with pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2. This means the unit is designed for industrial environments where conductive pollution or dry non-conductive pollution that becomes conductive due to condensation is expected.
Motor protection and control features
Built-in motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are standard. Adjustable current limitation allows setting the starting current below the locked-rotor value. An external reset input is provided for remote fault recovery. The soft starter does not support inside-delta circuit configuration — it is a standard in-line connection.
