Panel fit and frame dimensions
The 3RW4056-6BB35 sits in the SIRIUS Size S6 frame — 250 mm deep, 120 mm wide, 198 mm tall — which sets the minimum enclosure depth for a backpanel layout. Screw fixing to the mounting plate; no DIN-rail snap-on here, so plan for drilled and tapped holes or a sub-panel. Clearance around the unit: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 5 mm at the sides. That 75 mm bottom gap is the one that catches people — skimp on it and the power cables won't bend into the terminals without strain.
Current ratings and thermal derating
Headline rating is 162 A at 40 °C ambient — that's the number for a standard 40 °C panel environment. The derating temperature threshold is 40 °C, so above that the continuous current falls linearly. For a motor starting application, the inrush duty is brief, but the thermal model in the soft starter tracks the I²t accumulation across starts. Minimum load is 20 % of the rated current — below that the soft starter may not detect the motor load correctly. Adjustable current limitation is built in, so you can set the start current ceiling below the full 162 A to match the supply transformer or generator capacity.
Termination and conductor sizing
Main circuit connection uses busbar or cable lugs — the terminal accepts 4 AWG to 250 kcmil (25–120 mm² stranded) at the front and back clamping points, and 2x 1/0 max using both points. For auxiliary control wiring, solid or finely stranded 0.5–2.5 mm² (20–14 AWG) is the range. The busbar connection option is worth noting for panel builders who want a clean power distribution bar rather than individual cable tails. Maximum motor cable length is 300 m — beyond that the cable capacitance can cause nuisance tripping or affect the soft starter's firing angle control, especially on long runs to remote pumps or conveyors.
Environmental and compliance
Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 — this is the industrial default: conductive pollution or dry non-conductive pollution that becomes conductive due to condensation. The mounting position has restrictions: with the optional fan the unit can be rotated ±90° on a vertical surface and tilted ±22.5° front-to-back; without the fan the rotation is limited to ±10°.
