Derating and current capability across ambient temperature
The 3RW4422-3BC35: Full rated current is 50 A at 40 °C ambient. At 50 °C it derates to 45 A, and at 60 °C it drops to 40 A — plan the enclosure ventilation around the worst-case ambient, not the 40 °C number. Minimum load is 8 % of the rated motor current — handles lightly loaded conveyors and pumps without dropping out of soft-start mode.
Wiring and terminal details for panel integration
Main current circuit uses box terminals accepting stranded wire 2x (4 to 50 mm²) or AWG 10 to 1/0 using both clamping points. The back and front clamping points each take 10 to 2/0 AWG. Auxiliary and control circuit connections are spring-loaded terminals for 2x (24 to 16 AWG) solid or stranded — no screwdriver needed for the signal wiring, speeds up panel build. Mounting is screw fixing with a vertical mounting surface, rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upward, 75 mm downward, 5 mm at the sides.
Protection and diagnostics for commissioning
Integrated motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are built in — no external overload relay needed for the motor branch circuit. Adjustable current limitation is standard. Fault signal is displayed on an onboard display — no laptop required to read the fault code. External reset input allows remote clearing of a trip condition. Inside-delta circuit configuration is supported — useful for reducing the soft starter current rating when the motor windings can be broken out to six leads.
Sourcing and lifecycle status
Degree of pollution 3 per IEC 60947-4-2, operating temperature range during operation up to 60 °C, storage from -25 to +80 °C. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m.
