Thyristor stack and inside-delta wiring
Built around a thyristor power section — no mechanical contacts to weld or pit during the start cycle. The inside-delta circuit topology is supported, which lets you wire the soft starter between the motor windings rather than in the supply lines, reducing the per-phase current the unit carries by roughly 58 % for a given motor rating. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means it tolerates conductive dust and condensation typical in industrial panel environments.
Mounting and connection — panel layout constraints
Mounting position allows a vertical surface with ±90° rotation and ±22.5° tilt forward/back. Screw fixing to the backplate — no DIN-rail clip, so plan for drilled and tapped mounting points. Dimensions are 298 mm deep by 210 mm wide by 230 mm high; the depth is the dimension that governs enclosure depth, not the width. Main circuit connections accept busbar or cable: stranded 70–240 mm², finely stranded 50–240 mm², or AWG/kcmil from 2/0 up to 500 kcmil using both clamping points. The back clamping point takes 250–500 kcmil, the front takes 3/0–600 kcmil. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 5 mm at the sides. The 5 mm side gap is tight — adjacent devices or cable ducts must not encroach into that zone for airflow and arc flash clearance.
Protection, display, and control features
Motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are built in — no separate overload relay needed for the soft starter itself. Adjustable current limitation lets you set the start current below the full-load locked-rotor value, and the minimum load threshold is 8 % of the rated current. A display provides fault signal readout on the unit. External reset input is present, so the starter can be reset from a remote pushbutton or PLC digital output without opening the panel door. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m — relevant for installations where the starter is in an MCC room and the motor is at the far end of a long cable run. Storage temperature range is -25 to +80 °C; operating ambient max is 60 °C.
