542 A at 40 °C — sizing this soft starter to the motor FLA
The 3RW4445-6BC46 is rated 542 A at 40 °C ambient. That is the continuous current rating at the standard 40 °C derating point — size it so the motor full-load amps sit at or below this figure for standard duty. In a 50 °C panel the rating drops to 485 A; at 60 °C it is 433 A.
Inside-delta wiring and overload protection
This soft starter supports inside-delta circuit configuration, which reduces the current through the thyristors to 58% of the line current — useful when the motor is oversized for the soft starter's line rating. Integrated motor overload protection means no separate overload relay is needed in the motor branch circuit. Adjustable current limitation sets the maximum inrush during start, and the minimum load is 8%, so it handles lightly loaded motors without nuisance tripping.
Wiring and panel fit
Main circuit wiring accepts stranded 70–240 mm², finely stranded 50–240 mm², or AWG 2/0–500 kcmil. The main current circuit uses busbar connection — typical for this current class. Physical dimensions: 298 mm deep, 210 mm wide, 230 mm high. Clearance: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 5 mm at the sides.
Environmental and compliance
Operating ambient up to 60 °C; storage range -25 to +80 °C. The thyristor-based design includes intrinsic device protection against overtemperature and internal faults. An external reset input allows remote fault recovery. The onboard display shows fault signals for local diagnostics. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m.
