Rated current and thermal derating — the real limit in a closed panel
At 40 °C ambient the 3RW4446-2BC36 delivers 617 A continuous. If the panel ambient runs at 50 °C, the motor full-load current must stay below 546 A, not the 617 A headline figure. The derating temperature is 40 °C, meaning the unit is rated at that ambient without penalty. Above it, every degree costs current — budget the panel airflow accordingly.
Mounting and integration into the panel
Screw fixing — no DIN-rail clip. The unit mounts to a vertical surface and can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front/back, giving flexibility in tight enclosures. Dimensions: 230 mm high, 210 mm wide, 298 mm deep. Clearance: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 5 mm at the sides. Main circuit connection is via busbar or cable — stranded 70–240 mm², finely stranded 50–240 mm², or two 2/0–500 kcmil conductors per phase. The back clamping point accepts 250–500 kcmil; the front accepts 3/0–600 kcmil. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m — beyond that, voltage drop and reflected-wave effects on the thyristors need evaluation.
Pollution degree and environmental limits
Rated pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 — suitable for industrial environments where conductive dust or occasional condensation occurs. Operating temperature range: -25 to +60 °C during operation; storage from -25 to +80 °C.
