1,065 A at 40°C — the rating that governs the motor starting duty
The 3RW4454-6BC36 is rated 1,065 A at 40°C ambient. That is the base current for sizing the soft starter to the motor full-load amps — not the peak inrush, but the continuous current the thyristors and bypass contacts carry once the motor is up to speed. Derate to 954 A at 50°C and 847 A at 60°C. If the panel ambient runs above 40°C — common in a packed enclosure with drives and transformers — the usable current drops. The derating temperature is 40°C; above that, apply the curve. Insulation voltage is 690 V rated, operating frequency 50/60 Hz. The minimum load is 8% — it will start lightly loaded conveyors or pumps without the motor drawing enough current to keep the thyristors in conduction.
Integrated bypass — one less component to panel-build
The bypass contact system is built in. Once the motor reaches full speed, the thyristors are shorted by mechanical contacts, eliminating the continuous heat load of the semiconductors. No external bypass contactor to wire, size, or fail. Inside-delta circuit is supported. For a delta-connected motor, wiring the soft starter inside the delta legs reduces the line current by about 42% compared to the standard in-line connection. The unit handles the same motor kW at lower line amps — useful when the supply transformer or cable is the constraint. Motor overload protection is onboard, plus intrinsic device protection and adjustable current limitation. The display shows fault signals. External reset is available.
Panel fit — 640 x 510 x 290 mm, screw-fixed
Height 640 mm, width 510 mm, depth 290 mm. Fastening method is screw fixing — not DIN-rail snap-on at this frame size. The mounting position allows vertical surface with +/-90° rotation and +/-22.5° tilt front/back. Clearance: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 5 mm at the sides. The side clearance is tight — adjacent devices or enclosure walls must respect that 5 mm for airflow and arc flash containment. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means it is rated for conductive dust environments typical of cement, woodworking, or foundry panels. Main current circuit connection is busbar. Power wiring: stranded 70–240 mm², finely stranded 50–240 mm², or AWG 2/0–500 kcmil. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m.
