Sizing the 3RW4455-2BC45 for motor starting duty
Insulation voltage is 690 V, certified to IEC 60947-4-2 with pollution degree 3 — the standard for industrial motor starting where conductive dust and condensation are present. The operating frequency covers 50... 60 Hz, so it lands on either line frequency without a configuration change. Thyristor-based switching with an integrated bypass contact system means the silicon handles the ramp-up, then the bypass contactor carries the full-load current continuously — the thyristors are only stressed during start/stop, not at steady state. Adjustable current limitation and motor overload protection are built in, so no separate overload relay is needed for the motor branch.
Panel integration and clearance constraints
Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, and only 5 mm at the side — the side clearance is tight enough that adjacent components can sit nearly flush, but the vertical air path needs room for convection cooling. The derating curve assumes free air flow; stacking units without the vertical gap will push the operating temperature above the 60 °C ceiling. Main circuit wiring accepts stranded 70... 240 mm² or finely stranded 50... 240 mm², plus 2/0... 500 kcmil for North American builds.
Lifecycle and compliance documentation
The product carries pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2, which is the relevant product standard for soft starters. The insulation voltage rating of 690 V and the 50/60 Hz operating frequency are declared on the nameplate. For RoHS/REACH declarations, the manufacturer provides a declaration of conformity referenced to the SIRIUS series; request the current declaration at RFQ.
