1351 A frame — what the derating curve means for your panel
The 3RW4456-2BC34 is rated 1351 A at 40°C, derating to 1200 A at 50°C and 1065 A at 60°C. In a non-conditioned enclosure hitting 50°C ambient, budget for 1200 A continuous — the 1351 A number is only valid at or below 40°C. For a 1351 A bypass contactor, that's a significant panel cost and space reduction. Inside-delta circuit capability reduces motor cable current to 58% of line current — for a 1351 A motor, the cable between soft starter and motor carries ~783 A instead of the full 1351 A, allowing smaller cable or longer runs.
Mounting and clearances — screw-fixed, not DIN-rail
Mounting position allows ±90° rotation and ±22.5° tilt, useful for tight cabinets or angled backplates. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, only 5 mm at the sides — the tight side clearance helps pack multiple units side-by-side. Main current circuit connection is busbar — expect flat copper bars, not cable lugs, in the panel layout. Auxiliary and control circuit terminals are spring-loaded, accepting solid 0.25-1.5 mm² or stranded 70-240 mm² for mains. For North American installs, main terminals also accept 2/0-500 kcmil.
Protection and control — integrated overload, brake output, diagnostics
Motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are built in — no separate thermal relay or motor protection circuit breaker needed. Adjustable current limitation lets you set the starting torque profile to match the load, from 8% minimum load up to the rated current. A motor brake output is integrated — for hoist, incline, or fast-stop applications, the soft starter controls the brake directly without an external brake relay. Fault signals appear on the onboard display, reducing troubleshooting time. Maximum motor cable length is 500 m — sufficient for most plant layouts. Operating ambient up to 60°C with storage range -25 to +80°C covers non-conditioned plant floors.
