1864 A at 40 °C — current derating drives the panel fit
The 3RW4465-2BC44 is a SIRIUS soft starter rated 1 864 A at 40 °C (cite:), derating to 1 680 A at 50 °C (cite:) and 1 524 A at 60 °C (cite:). The derating temperature is 40 °C (cite:), so ambient above that cuts the continuous current — budget the panel's internal rise when sizing. Thyristor-based (cite:) with an integrated bypass contact system (cite:) that takes the SCRs out of the circuit once the motor is at speed, eliminating heat dissipation in the power stack during steady-state running. Supports inside-delta connection (cite:) — wiring the soft starter between the delta legs rather than in the line reduces the phase current the unit sees, effectively allowing a smaller frame to start a given motor.
Mounting and clearance — 780 mm tall, needs 100 mm above
Dimensions 575 mm wide, 780 mm high, 292 mm deep (cite:,). Mounting is screw fixing (cite:) to a vertical surface, rotatable +/-90° and tiltable +/-22.5° (cite:). Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards (cite:), 75 mm downwards (cite:), 5 mm at the side (cite:). The side gap is tight — adjacent components can be close, but the vertical airflow path must stay open. Power connection is busbar (cite:) with main contact wire range 2/0... 500 kcmil (cite:).
Protection and control features
Built-in motor overload protection (cite:) and intrinsic device protection (cite:) with adjustable current limitation (cite:). Minimum load is 8% (cite:) — the unit can soft-start very light loads without dropping out. Includes a display for fault signals (cite:) and external reset capability (cite:). A motor brake output is integrated (cite:) — useful for applications needing controlled deceleration or holding. Rated insulation voltage 690 V (cite:), pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 (cite:). Maximum motor wire length 500 m (cite:) — beyond that, capacitive charging current may cause nuisance trips or SCR misfiring.
