Sizing a 1 864 A soft starter into the panel
The 3RW4465-2BC45: Insulation voltage rated 690 V, pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2, so it holds up in industrial panels with conductive dust without creepage failures. Integrated bypass contact system means the thyristors are shorted out after start — the heat dissipated during continuous run is just the bypass contacts, not the silicon junction.
Inside-delta wiring cuts line current by 58%
Supports inside-delta circuit connection — the soft starter sits in the motor delta legs, so line current drawn is 58% of the motor FLA compared to standard inline wiring. For a 1 864 A unit that means the upstream contactor and cables see about 1 080 A. Adjustable current limitation lets you cap the start surge — set it between 8% and the full rating, which keeps the supply from dipping on weak grids or long cable runs up to 500 m.
Termination and mounting — busbar or cable up to 500 kcmil
Main current circuit accepts busbar connection or cable: stranded 70–240 mm², finely stranded 50–240 mm², or AWG 2/0–500 kcmil. Mounting by screw fixing, 780 mm high by 575 mm wide by 292 mm deep. The enclosure cutout must clear these; clearance above is 100 mm, below 75 mm, side 5 mm.
Protection and diagnostics built in
Motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are integrated — no separate overload relay to size and wire. External reset input and a display for fault signals speed up troubleshooting on the line. Storage range -25 to +80 °C, operation up to 60 °C ambient.
Lifecycle stage is current — Siemens still manufactures this soft starter. No stock-holding claim — quoted per order.
