Current rating and thermal derating — the real operating envelope
The 3RW4465-6BC45: The thyristor output stage handles the inrush without mechanical contact wear — the integrated bypass contact system closes after start to carry the full load current with zero semiconductor losses.
Wiring and mounting — what the panel builder needs
Main circuit connections accept stranded cable from 70 to 240 mm² or busbar connection, with the US kcmil range listed at 2/0 to 500 kcmil. Mounting is by screw fixing with the vertical mounting surface rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 5 mm at the sides. The unit measures 780 mm high × 575 mm wide × 292 mm deep — this is a large-frame soft starter that needs a dedicated enclosure bay.
Protection and control features
Motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are built in — no separate overload relay needed for most installations. Adjustable current limitation lets you set the start current between 8% and full load, useful for soft-starting conveyors or pumps where mechanical shock must be limited. The inside-delta circuit configuration is supported, which reduces the thyristor current rating requirement by 42% compared to standard in-line wiring — a key detail for retrofits where the motor is already wired in delta. External reset input and a display for fault signals simplify troubleshooting on the line.
