Current ratings and thermal derating
The 3RW4466-6BC36: The derating temperature threshold is 40 °C, so any panel ambient above that clips the available current linearly. Insulation voltage is rated 690 V, operating frequency 50/60 Hz at 115 V control supply. The inside-delta circuit configuration is supported, which reduces the current through the thyristors by a factor of √3 compared to standard in-line wiring — useful for retrofitting into existing motor circuits without upsizing the starter.
Protection and control features
Motor overload protection and intrinsic device protection are built in, plus adjustable current limitation — set the start ramp ceiling to match the load without tripping upstream feeders. The integrated bypass contact system shunts the thyristors after start, eliminating heat dissipation in the power stack during run. Minimum load is 8 % of the rated current, so it handles lightly loaded motors without dropping out. External reset and a display for fault signals simplify troubleshooting on the line.
Mounting and wiring constraints
Mounting is screw fixing with a vertical surface — the unit can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front/back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 5 mm at the sides. Dimensions are 780 mm height, 575 mm width, 292 mm depth — a large frame that needs a dedicated panel bay. Main current circuit connection uses busbar; the terminal ranges are 70–240 mm² stranded and 50–240 mm² finely stranded, or 2/0–500 kcmil for the main contacts. Maximum motor wire length is 500 m.
