Hazardous-area certifications — ATEX, UKEX, IECEx
ATEX, UKEX, and IECEx are all listed as Yes — the 3RW5056-2AB14 carries the three main explosive-atmosphere certifications. That means it can be installed in Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas groups and Zone 21 or Zone 22 dust areas per IEC 60079-14, provided the rest of the installation follows the same protection concept. The UKEX mark covers Great Britain post-Brexit; IECEx gives international acceptance without retesting.
Rated voltage 200-480 V — motor voltage coverage
Rated voltage is 200 to 480 V AC, covering the common low-voltage motor systems worldwide: 208 V, 230 V, 400 V, 460 V, and 480 V. The minimum motor full-load current is 81 A — that sets the floor for the motor FLC this frame can handle. The control supply is 110-250 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz, so a single control transformer covers both 120 V and 240 V control circuits.
Trip class and starting profiles
Trip class is selectable: CLASS 10A, 10E (preset), or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A clears an overload in 10 seconds at 7.2× Ie — suited for normal-start loads like pumps and fans. The preset 10E is the default out of the box.
Fieldbus integration — PROFIBUS, Modbus, EtherNet/IP
The soft starter supports PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP. That covers the three dominant industrial Ethernet protocols plus the legacy fieldbus. PROFIenergy is available when used with the PROFINET communication module — useful for energy management in automated lines. The analog output is 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V (parameterizable with the High Feature HMI), giving a speed or current signal back to the PLC.
Mounting clearances and panel fit
Dimensions are 249 mm deep, 120 mm wide, 198 mm high. Screw fixing to the backplate or DIN rail. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 10 mm in front, 0 mm behind, 75 mm below, 5 mm at the sides. The zero backward clearance means it can sit flush against the panel back wall — useful in shallow enclosures.
Compliance and approvals — UL, CSA, CE
UL and CSA approvals are listed — the soft starter is accepted for North American installations without additional agency review. CE marking covers the European market. The product category is hybrid switching devices, meaning it combines semiconductor switching for the start ramp with a mechanical bypass contactor for steady-state running, reducing heat dissipation during continuous operation.
