Current setting and trip class — the fit decision
The 3RW5056-6AB04 is a SIRIUS soft starter whose minimum settable current is 81 A, relative to the smallest Ie, per the datasheet. That 81 A floor governs the smallest motor you can protect — anything below that and the overload curve won't calibrate correctly. The trip class is selectable as CLASS 10A, 10E (preset), or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2, so it matches standard motor start profiles: 10A for normal starts, 10E for slightly extended acceleration, 20E for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or large fans. The voltage range is 200 to 480 V, covering common low-voltage three-phase supplies across North America and Europe.
Fieldbus and analog interface
This soft starter ships with onboard support for PROFIBUS, PROFINET standard, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP — no separate communication module needed for those protocols. PROFIenergy is available when paired with the PROFINET standard communication module. The analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V via the High Feature HMI, giving the controls integrator a direct process-variable signal back to the PLC or DCS without an external transducer.
Clearance requirements: 100 mm upward, 75 mm downward, 10 mm forward, 0 mm backward, 5 mm at the sides. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g / 11 ms with potential contact lifting — relevant for mobile or high-vibration installations.
This is an active, current-production Siemens SIRIUS soft starter.
