Rated voltage and current — what fits your motor
The 3RW5073-2TB14: Rated 200-480 V, this soft starter covers the common low-voltage motor range across 50/60 Hz supplies. The minimum settable current is 100 A, so the motor FLA must be at or above that floor — anything smaller and the overload protection won't set correctly. Trip class is preset to CLASS 10A / 10E, with CLASS 20E selectable per IEC 60947-4-2. CLASS 10 suits standard-start applications like pumps and fans; CLASS 20 gives more headroom for high-inertia loads such as centrifuges or crushers.
Fieldbus and control — wiring into the automation layer
PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP are all on the supported list — no separate gateway needed for most PLC environments. PROFIenergy is available when paired with the PROFINET communication module. Remote reset is handled by cycling the control supply voltage — useful for clearing a fault without a panel visit. Auto-reset is also configurable.
ATEX, IECEx, and approvals — compliance for hazardous areas
ATEX and IECEx certified, so this unit can be installed in Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 21 or Zone 22 dust atmospheres — the soft starter itself is not the ignition source.
Mounting and clearances — panel layout constraints
Screw fixing to a vertical mounting surface; the unit can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front-to-back. Minimum clearances: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 0 mm backwards, 5 mm at the sides — plan the gland plate and busbar routing accordingly.
Operating temperature and derating
For a 50 °C panel ambient, expect to reduce the motor FLA setting by roughly 10-15% depending on load profile.
