Integrator's brief
The 3RW5073-6TB14: Trip Class is selectable between CLASS 10A, 10E (preset), and 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. CLASS 10A provides the fastest overload protection for standard induction motors; 20E allows longer starting times for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers. The preset 10E is a common middle ground for general-purpose pumping and conveying.
Fastening is by screw fixing; the footprint is 160 mm wide, 230 mm high, and 282 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 0 mm backwards, and 5 mm at the side. These are the minimum free-air gaps for heat dissipation — panel builders should account for them in the enclosure layout to avoid derating above 40 °C ambient. The unit carries a service factor of 1, so no continuous overload margin is built in — sizing must match the motor full-load amps exactly.
Control and communications
Fieldbus options include PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP. PROFIenergy is supported when used with the PROFINET Standard communication module, enabling energy-saving pauses during idle periods on automated lines. Remote reset is achieved by cycling the control supply voltage. Soft Torque and Voltage Ramp starting modes are available, along with Pump Ramp Down for controlled deceleration of centrifugal loads — useful for preventing water hammer in pumping stations. There is no analog output and no torque control; the unit is a basic ramp-start soft starter, not a closed-loop controller. The minimum load is 15% of the smallest settable Ie, so it can handle lightly loaded motors without nuisance tripping. An error logbook is available only with special accessories. Auto-reset is supported.
CE, UL, and CSA approvals are listed, covering European, US, and Canadian installations. ATEX, UKEX, and IECEx certifications are present — this is the version for explosive-environment motor control. The lifecycle stage is current, meaning Siemens continues to manufacture and support this order code without an announced end-of-life.
