Soft starter for hazardous-area motor control
The 3RW5073-6TB15: Its ATEX and IECEx certifications (Yes) mean it can be installed in Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 21 or Zone 22 dust atmospheres — the soft starter itself is not an ignition source during normal operation or under expected fault conditions. Trip class is selectable between CLASS 10A, 10E (preset), and 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. CLASS 20E extends the trip time to 20 seconds, accommodating high-inertia loads like centrifuges or large fans that need a longer acceleration ramp without nuisance tripping.
Fieldbus integration and control flexibility
This soft starter supports PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP natively — no separate communication module needed for these protocols. PROFINET with PROFIenergy is available via an optional communication module. The voltage ramp and soft torque features reduce mechanical shock on coupled loads — the ramp shape is adjustable to match pump, conveyor, or compressor start profiles. Pump ramp down provides a controlled deceleration to prevent water hammer in piping systems. Auto-reset and remote reset (by cycling the control supply voltage) allow unattended restart after a fault clears — useful for remote or unmanned installations where manual reset is impractical.
Mounting, environment, and approvals
Mounting is screw fixing with a vertical surface orientation; the unit can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° forward/backward. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backwards — plan the enclosure layout accordingly for airflow and cable entry. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g / 11 ms. Approvals include CE marking, UL approval, and CSA approval — accepted in European, US, and Canadian electrical installations without additional certification work.
