Hazardous-area certification and overload protection
The 3RW5074-6TB14 carries ATEX, UKEX, and IECEx certification, meaning it is approved for installation in explosive atmospheres — a requirement that narrows the field of soft starters considerably. Trip class is selectable between CLASS 10A, 10E (preset), and 20E per IEC 60947-4-2, which governs the overload protection curve for motor starting — CLASS 10A clears a stall in under 10 seconds at 7.2× Ie, while CLASS 20E allows a longer acceleration ramp for high-inertia loads. Minimum operating current is 135 A, which sets the floor for the motor full-load current the unit can protect — any motor below that FLC requires a smaller frame.
Voltage range and starting profiles
Rated voltage spans 200 to 480 V, covering the common low-voltage motor supplies across 50/60 Hz systems — the control supply accepts 110-250 V at both frequencies. Starting profiles include Soft Torque, Voltage Ramp, and Pump Ramp Down — the pump ramp-down feature reduces water hammer in centrifugal pump applications by extending the deceleration ramp rather than coasting to stop. Auto-reset and remote reset (by cycling the control supply voltage) are supported, allowing the starter to re-engage after a fault without a manual panel visit.
Fieldbus integration and environmental limits
The unit supports PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP — four common industrial protocols — plus PROFIenergy in conjunction with the PROFINET communication module for energy management during idle phases. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g / 11 ms — this matters for installations on vibrating machinery or in mobile equipment.
