The 3RW5116-1XC14 is a SIRIUS soft starter sized for three-phase induction motors on 200-480 VAC lines. The trip class defaults to CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, meaning it clears a locked-rotor condition within 10 seconds at 7x FLA — standard for most pump, fan, and conveyor starts. You can parameterize it to 10E or 20E if the application needs a longer acceleration ramp (high-inertia loads like a centrifuge or a long belt). The minimum settable motor current is 14 A, so it covers the lower end of the medium-horsepower range without over-sizing the bypass. The control voltage accepts 110-250 V at both 50 and 60 Hz, which keeps the control transformer common across global panels. Communication comes with PROFIBUS and PROFINET onboard — no option card needed for either fieldbus. The analog output defaults to 4-20 mA but can be switched to 0-10 V through the HMI module, giving the DCS a motor-current or ramp-progress signal without a separate transducer.
Mounts via screw fixing on a vertical surface; the enclosure allows +/-10° rotation and forward/backward tilt. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm backward — the back can sit flat against the panel backplate. That 100 mm upward gap is critical for heat plume rise; crowding it forces derating. The protection class is IP00 out of the box — IP20 is achievable with the optional terminal covers (3RW5980-0HS00) for vertical touch protection. In a pulp mill switchroom that hits 45 °C in summer, you need to either up-size the starter or add forced ventilation. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms; vibration tolerance is 15 mm at 6 Hz and 2 g up to 500 Hz, which handles most motor-starter cubicle vibration without contact chatter.
