Active production, 240 A minimum — what that means for your BOM
The 3RW5148-1XC14-0S: The minimum settable current is 240 A, which sets the floor for motor FLA you can protect; below that the starter won't regulate properly. Rated voltage range is 200-480 V, covering common 208/230/460/480 VAC industrial supplies without a separate voltage tap.
Trip class and starting profile — selecting the right protection curve
Starting voltage is adjustable 30-100 %; the stopping voltage is fixed at 50 %, non-adjustable — plan the deceleration profile around that fixed threshold. Soft Torque and ramp-down (soft stop) are both available, giving control over acceleration and deceleration for pumps to avoid water hammer.
Fieldbus and HMI — integration into a control network
Onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, and PROFINET standard — no separate communication module needed; the starter talks directly to the PLC over any of these three fieldbuses. HMI-Standard and HMI-High Feature are both present; the High Feature HMI enables parameterization of the analog output (4-20 mA default or 0-10 V) and access to the error logbook. Firmware updates are supported in the field — useful if the plant standardizes on a later protocol revision.
Mounting and clearance — panel layout constraints
Screw fixing only — no DIN-rail clip; the 417 x 210 x 203 mm footprint needs four mounting holes in the back panel. Minimum clearance around the unit: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backwards — the back can sit flush against the panel. Mounting position allows ±90° rotation from vertical and ±22.5° tilt front-to-back — useful for tight enclosures or angled subpanels.
Environmental ratings — where it can live in the panel
Operating temperature range -25 to +60 °C, with derating required at 40 °C or above — the continuous current rating drops as ambient climbs. Shock resistance 15 g / 11 ms (12 g / 11 ms with potential contact lifting); vibration resistance 15 mm at 6 Hz, 2 g to 500 Hz — suitable for machine-mounted applications with moderate vibration. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 — the unit tolerates conductive pollution in industrial environments without conformal coating on the enclosure.
Control wiring and reset options
Control circuit connections use screw-type terminals — standard for panel wiring, no special tooling needed. Auto-reset and remote reset (by cycling control supply voltage) are both supported, allowing unattended restart after a fault if the application permits. Inside-delta circuit connection is possible — reduces the starter current rating requirement for delta-connected motors by 58 %, but needs six motor leads brought to the starter.
