SIRIUS 3RW5214-1AC05 Soft Starter — Field Note
The Siemens 3RW5214-1AC05 is a SIRIUS hybrid soft starter rated for 200-600 V supply, with a minimum settable current of 7.5 A. It's built for three-phase induction motor starting, with the trip class configurable as CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. That means it protects the motor during start-up by limiting inrush, and the trip class tells you how long it can hold the current before thermal overload — 10A is the standard for normal starts, 10E for extended ramp, 20E for heavy inertia loads. On the communications side, this unit ships with PROFIBUS onboard, plus Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard. That's a full fieldbus slice for most PLC ecosystems — Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider — without extra option cards. The analog output is 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, parameterizable with a High Feature HMI. It also includes soft torque and pump ramp down features, which reduce mechanical stress on the load and prevent water hammer in pump applications. Remote reset is handled by cycling the 24 V control supply. Mounting is screw-fix to a vertical surface, with +/-10° rotation allowance.
Dimensions are 275 mm height, 170 mm width, 152 mm depth — fits a standard enclosure depth. Mounting is screw-fix to a vertical surface; the unit can be tilted +/-10° forward or backward. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 75 mm downward, 5 mm at the side, 0 mm backward. That's tight side clearance but generous top and bottom for cable entry and airflow. The power terminals accept 2x (1.0-2.5 mm²) and 2x (2.5-10 mm²) solid/stranded — no special lug tooling needed. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g / 11 ms with potential contact lifting — fine for most industrial panels, but check if your application sees repetitive shock near that limit.
