Trip class and motor protection for pump and conveyor starts
The 3RW5214-1TC14 is a hybrid switching device — a soft starter — whose trip class governs how long it can carry locked-rotor current during a start without thermally overloading the motor. Minimum settable load current is 7.5 A, with a minimum load of 15% relative to the smallest settable Ie — so the unit will not regulate below that threshold, which matters when commissioning a lightly loaded motor that draws less than the floor.
Fieldbus connectivity and remote control
This soft starter carries PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard interfaces onboard — no separate communication module needed for most plant networks. PROFIenergy is supported in connection with the PROFINET standard communication module, which allows the drive to respond to energy-management commands from the controller during idle phases. Firmware updates are possible via the fieldbus connection, and an error logbook is available but only in conjunction with special accessories — factor that into your commissioning toolkit if you rely on event history for root-cause analysis. Auto-reset is standard; remote reset is achieved by cycling the control supply voltage off and back on — a simple means of clearing a trip from a remote panel without a hardwired reset pushbutton.
Mounting clearances and ambient derating
The enclosure dimensions are 275 mm height, 170 mm width, 152 mm depth — screw fixing to the mounting plate. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backwards. The backwards allowance of zero means the unit can sit flush against a backplate, which simplifies panel layout in tight cabinets. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting from 12 g / 11 ms — the unit holds the grid under normal vibration but the contacts may bounce if the panel is subjected to repeated shock events near that threshold.
