Trip class and motor protection — what CLASS 10A means for your load
The 3RW5214-1TC15 soft starter defaults to Trip Class 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E and 20E classes. If your load has high inertia (centrifuge, crusher, long conveyor) and the acceleration time exceeds 10 seconds, switch to Class 20E to avoid nuisance trips during ramp-up.
Voltage range and fieldbus — global line compatibility
Rated 200-600 V, this unit covers 208 V, 240 V, 400 V, 480 V, and 600 V line voltages — one SKU for multi-voltage plants. Fieldbus options include PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET. This covers most plant-floor networks without a gateway, but note that the PROFINET standard communication module is required for PROFIenergy support.
Mounting and clearance — panel layout constraints
Dimensions are 275 mm height × 170 mm width × 152 mm depth. The 152 mm depth is the critical dimension for shallow enclosures — verify your cabinet depth before committing. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm behind. The 100 mm top clearance is non-negotiable for airflow; stacking units without it will trigger thermal derating above 40 °C. Fastening is screw fixing on a vertical mounting surface, with ±10° rotation or tilt allowed. The solid conductor terminals accept 2× (1.0-2.5 mm²) and 2× (2.5-10 mm²) — this covers both control wiring and power connections without needing lug adapters for standard cable sizes.
Application features — pump ramp down and soft torque
Pump ramp down is a dedicated feature for pump applications — it gradually reduces voltage during stop to eliminate water hammer and pressure surges in the piping. Soft torque provides a gentler start for high-friction loads like conveyors with material on the belt, reducing mechanical shock to the drivetrain. Minimum load is 15% of the smallest settable Ie, and the minimum current rating is 7.5 A. This means the starter can handle lightly loaded motors down to about 1.1 kW at 400 V, but below that threshold the current sensing may be unreliable — size the starter to the motor FLA, not the motor power rating.
Lifecycle and compliance — active production, approvals on file
Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g / 11 ms — this matters for applications near crushers, presses, or other high-vibration machinery.
