The Siemens 3RW5214-3TC04 is a SIRIUS soft starter for three-phase induction motors from 7.5 A minimum up to its rated current, on supplies from 200 to 480 VAC. It is part of the current-production SIRIUS family — still active, no end-of-life notice. This is the version with integrated PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET, plus PROFIenergy support when paired with the PROFINET communication module. Control voltage is 24 VDC.
Trip Class and Starting Duty
The soft starter is configurable to Trip Class 10A (default), 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A is the standard for most motor starts — it allows the starter to carry 7x rated current for about 10 seconds before tripping, matching a standard induction-motor acceleration curve. Class 20E gives more headroom for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers. Minimum load is 15% of the smallest settable Ie.
Fieldbus and Control
Onboard protocols: PROFIBUS DP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET. No analog output; torque control not supported. Remote reset by cycling 24 VDC control supply.
Screw fixing to a vertical surface; the unit can be tilted ±10° forward or backward. Clearances: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm front, 5 mm sides, 0 mm rear. Shock rated to 15 g / 11 ms — tough enough for most industrial panels, but potential contact lifting starts at 12 g / 11 ms.
Termination
Spring-cage terminals accept 2x (1.0 to 2.5 mm²) and 2x (2.5 to 10 mm²) — solid or ferruled stranded. The 10 mm² capacity covers standard motor cables up to about 8 AWG.
