The Siemens SIRIUS 3RW5215-3AC05 is a current-production soft starter for three-phase induction motors, rated for line voltages of 200 to 600 VAC. Its minimum settable operating current is 11.5 A. The trip class is configurable: default CLASS 10A, with selectable 10E and 20E profiles per IEC 60947-4-2. The unit supports PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP natively — five fieldbus protocols on a single device, no option card swapping. That makes it straightforward to drop into a multi-vendor control architecture without a gateway. The analog output is 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V (parameterizable via the High Feature HMI), which gives the DCS or PLC a direct feedback signal of motor current or torque without a separate transducer.
Mounting, wiring, and environment
Mounting is screw-fixing to a flat back panel (no DIN-rail clip on this frame size). Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm behind (panel-mount flush). The solid wire terminals accept 2x 1.0 to 2.5 mm² and 2x 2.5 to 10 mm² conductors, so you can feed both the incoming line and the motor cable through the same clamp without a separate terminal block. The shock rating is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g / 11 ms if the potential contact lifting limit is a concern. The mounting position allows +/- 10° rotation and tilt forward or backward on a vertical surface.
It carries CE, UL, and CSA approvals, so it is accepted across North America and the European Union without a separate certification project.
