Trip class and overload protection
The 3RW5216-1TC05: Trip class is selectable: default CLASS 10A, with alternatives 10E and 20E, all per IEC 60947-4-2. For a standard motor start under 10 seconds, Class 10A holds the thermal model tight enough to protect the winding without nuisance tripping on normal inertia loads.
Rated voltage and minimum current
Rated operating voltage is 200 to 600 V, covering the common global low-voltage motor rails (208, 230, 400, 480, 575 V) without a tap change. Minimum settable current is 14 A — that sets the floor for the motor FLA the soft starter can protect; below that the internal CT resolution cannot guarantee the trip curve.
Operating temperature and derating
Ambient range during operation is -25 to +60 °C, but the datasheet explicitly notes derating at 40 °C or above. In a non-ventilated enclosure near a hot process line, the continuous current rating drops — the installer should size the enclosure ventilation to keep internal air below that threshold, else the soft starter will trip on its own thermal model before the motor does.
Fieldbus and communication options
Built-in support for PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET — the unit ships with the PROFINET standard communication module onboard. The PROFIenergy profile is available in conjunction with that module, letting the soft starter participate in coordinated energy management during production pauses. No separate gateway needed for any of these protocols; the fieldbus selection is made at commissioning via parameter set.
Dimensions: 170 mm wide, 275 mm high, 152 mm deep. Screw fixing to the mounting plate — no DIN-rail adapter, so plan for a backplate drill template. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 75 mm downward, 5 mm at the sides, zero backward. That zero-backward clearance means it can sit flush against the rear panel, saving depth in a shallow enclosure. Mounting position allows vertical surface with ±90° rotation and ±22.5° tilt front-to-back, which helps when the panel layout forces a non-vertical orientation.
Pump ramp down and reset features
Pump ramp down is included — a soft stop that reduces water hammer in pumping applications by gradually reducing voltage to the motor instead of an abrupt coast-to-stop. Auto-reset is supported, as is remote reset by cycling the 24 V control supply off and on. This suits remote or unattended installations where a manual pushbutton is not accessible.
