Sizing and Trip Class Selection
The Siemens 3RW5216-3TC15 is a soft starter rated for 200-600 V AC supply, with a minimum load current of 14 A. Its Trip Class defaults to CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E and 20E curves.
Communications and Integration
This unit ships with onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP — four fieldbus protocols in one package, so it drops into a Rockwell, Siemens, or legacy Modbus network without an external gateway. PROFINET standard and PROFIenergy are also supported, the latter enabling energy-management data exchange during idle phases when paired with a PROFINET communication module.
Screw-fixed mounting on a vertical surface, rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm backwards — so it can sit flush against a backplane. Dimensions are 170 mm wide × 275 mm high × 152 mm deep. Terminal capacity accepts 2× (1.0-2.5 mm²) and 2× (2.5-10 mm²) solid or stranded conductors.
Operating Conditions and Approvals
Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting at 12 g / 11 ms. UL and CSA approvals are in place, plus CE marking — so it ships into North American and European panels without a separate approval chase. The soft starter includes auto-reset capability, remote reset by cycling the control supply voltage, and pump ramp-down for water-hammer mitigation.
