Rated voltage 200…480 V, minimum load 40.5 A — what that means for your motor string
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RW5227-3AC04 is a soft starter covering a 200 to 480 V supply range, with a minimum settable operating current of 40.5 A. That minimum matters: the unit won't regulate below that threshold, so it's sized for motor strings where the smallest motor draws at least that current — typically a 15–20 kW induction motor on 400 V three-phase, depending on service factor. The trip class defaults to CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E or 20E for heavier starts like crushers or centrifuges. Mounting is screw-fix, with the vertical surface rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back, giving flexibility in tight cabinets.
Fieldbus support: PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP
This soft starter ships with native support for PROFIBUS, PROFINET (including PROFIenergy), Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP. That covers the major industrial Ethernet and fieldbus ecosystems — Siemens S7, Rockwell, and Modbus-based controllers all connect without an extra gateway. The analog output defaults to 4…20 mA, parameterizable to 0…10 V via the High Feature HMI accessory. Remote reset is handled by cycling the 24 V DC control supply. An error logbook is available but only with special accessories — factor that into your spares kit if fault logging is critical.
