Trip Class and Motor Protection
The Siemens 3RW5234-2TC14 SIRIUS soft starter is a hybrid switching device rated for motor starting duty with a trip class of CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E, per IEC 60947-4-2. This means it can handle a 10-second overload at 7x rated current without tripping — typical for standard induction motor starts on pump, fan, or conveyor loads. The 10E and 20E settings extend the thermal memory for longer acceleration times, useful for high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers.
Voltage Range and Current Floor
The unit operates on a rated voltage of 200 to 480 V AC. The minimum settable motor current is 53 A.
Fieldbus and Control Integration
This soft starter ships with onboard support for PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard. That means it can drop into a controller over PROFINET, an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix over EtherNet/IP, or a legacy Modbus RTU network without an external gateway. The PROFINET interface also supports PROFIenergy, allowing the drive to signal its power state during idle periods for coordinated energy management.
Mounting is screw-fixing on a vertical surface, with the enclosure rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm to the side, and 0 mm backward — so it can sit flush against a back panel.
Environmental and Approvals
Shock resistance is 15 g for 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g.
