53 A minimum, Trip Class 10A — what that means for motor starting
The Siemens 3RW5234-2TC15 is a SIRIUS soft starter rated for a minimum motor current of 53 A at 200-600 V, with Trip Class 10A as the default setting — meaning it will disconnect the motor if the start takes longer than 10 seconds at six times the set current, per IEC 60947-4-2. For applications requiring a longer acceleration window, you can switch to Class 10E or 20E, which extends the thermal curve to 20 seconds at 6× Ie. This is the parameter that governs whether the starter trips on a heavy start (high-inertia fan, loaded conveyor) or holds through it. The 53 A minimum floor means this unit is sized for motors drawing at least that current at full load; it will not adjust down to fractional loads. If your BOM calls for a 30 A motor, this is the wrong frame. The 200-600 V operating range covers standard 400 V three-phase industrial supplies across 50/60 Hz.
Fieldbus onboard — PROFIBUS, Modbus, EtherNet/IP
This soft starter ships with PROFIBUS onboard — no option card needed for that protocol. It also supports Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP natively, so it drops into most automation architectures without a gateway. If your line runs PROFINET, the unit supports it as well, with PROFIenergy available when paired with the PROFINET communication module. For commissioning, the firmware is field-updatable, and an error logbook is accessible via special accessories. The HMI-High Feature is not present on this variant, so parameterization is done through the fieldbus or a connected panel.
Mounting and clearance — fits a standard enclosure
The 3RW5234-2TC15 measures 306 mm high, 185 mm wide, and 203 mm deep. It mounts via screw fixing on a vertical surface, rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Minimum clearances: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backward. These are the numbers your panel designer needs for airflow and cable bend radius — the backward clearance of zero means it can sit flush against a backplate.
