Trip class and motor protection depth
The 3RW5245-6TC05: Trip class is configurable: default CLASS 10A, with selectable CLASS 10E or CLASS 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Minimum operating current is 135 A, which sets the floor for the motor FLA the soft starter can regulate. Below this threshold the internal current sensing loses resolution — the load must draw at least 15 % of the smallest settable Ie. Rated voltage range is 200–600 V, covering common global line voltages (208 V, 230 V, 400 V, 480 V, 575 V) without a tap-change or reconfiguration.
Fieldbus and control integration
Onboard fieldbus options include PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET — the soft starter fits into most common automation networks without an external gateway. PROFIenergy support is available when used with the PROFINET communication module. Control supply is 24 V DC. Remote reset is possible by cycling the control supply voltage. Auto-reset is also supported for unattended restart after a fault clears. Analog output is not fitted — speed or torque feedback requires a separate encoder or drive interface. Torque control is also absent; this is a voltage-ramp soft starter, not a closed-loop torque controller.
Mounting and environmental limits
Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backward — plan the enclosure depth and ventilation accordingly. Dimensions are 393 mm height × 210 mm width × 203 mm depth. The enclosure cutout and door clearance must accommodate the full height — the unit is taller than a typical contactor of similar rating. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting at 12 g / 11 ms — relevant for mobile or high-vibration installations. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means the unit tolerates conductive pollution (condensation, light dust) typical of industrial control panels not hermetically sealed.
Application features — pump and soft torque
Pump Ramp Down is a dedicated deceleration profile that reduces water hammer in pump systems by extending the stop ramp. Soft Torque provides a gentler initial torque build-up for loads sensitive to mechanical shock, such as conveyors with loose product. Firmware updates are supported, and an error logbook is available with special accessories — useful for commissioning diagnostics and field troubleshooting. Service factor is 1.0 — the unit is not designed for continuous overload above the rated current. The minimum load is 15 % of the smallest settable Ie, so very small motors relative to the starter rating may not regulate correctly.
