Panel fit and mounting constraints
The 3RW5246-6AC05 measures 393 mm high, 210 mm wide, and 203 mm deep — the depth dimension is the one that catches you out in shallow enclosures. Screw fixing to the backplate, with the mounting surface vertical; the unit can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front-to-back if the panel layout demands it. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, and zero backwards. That 100 mm upward gap is non-negotiable for airflow — pack it tighter and the derating curve at 40 °C ambient starts to bite.
Motor protection and trip class selection
Trip class defaults to CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E and 20E for higher-inertia loads. The 160 A minimum setting means this unit handles motors from about 75 kW up, depending on the starting duty — the minimum load is 15 % of the smallest settable Ie. Rated voltage spans 200-600 V, covering 208 V, 240 V, 400 V, 480 V, and 600 V networks without a voltage variant change. Service factor is 1.0 — no built-in overload margin beyond the nameplate rating.
Fieldbus integration for the controls engineer
Native support for PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET — the PROFINET variant also carries PROFIenergy for coordinated energy management during production pauses. The analog output defaults to 4-20 mA, parameterizable to 0-10 V with the High Feature HMI option. Firmware updates are supported in the field. The error logbook requires a special accessory — factor that into the BOM if fault recording is needed for the commissioning sign-off.
Pump and process-specific features
Soft Torque and Pump Ramp Down are built in — the ramp-down feature gradually reduces torque on pump stop to prevent water hammer. Remote reset is available by cycling the 24 V control supply. Auto-reset is also supported for unattended restart sequences.
Regulatory compliance and approvals
UL and CSA approved for North American installations, CE marked for the European market. Pollution degree 3 per IEC 60947-4-2 means it's rated for industrial environments with conductive contamination — no derating needed for dirty panel air. Shock resistance tested to 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g / 11 ms — relevant if this goes into a mobile or vibrating skid.
