160 A minimum, 200-600 V — sized for the motor, not the line
The Siemens 3RW5246-6TC05 SIRIUS soft starter is rated for a minimum motor current of 160 A and a supply voltage range of 200 to 600 V. That 160 A floor is the load-side rating — you size the soft starter to the motor FLA, not the incoming feeder. The 200-600 V window covers three-phase systems without a voltage-tap change. Trip Class is selectable: CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E, per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A is the standard for standard-start applications — it allows the motor to accelerate within 10 seconds at 6x FLA. Switch to 10E or 20E for high-inertia loads (centrifuges, crushers) where acceleration takes longer. The default 10A setting trips a standard squirrel-cage motor correctly; only change it if the load profile demands it.
Mounting and clearances — panel layout constraints
Envelope dimensions are 203 mm depth, 210 mm width, and 393 mm height. Fastening is screw fixing — no DIN-rail clip. Required clearances: 100 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 0 mm backwards, 75 mm downwards, and 5 mm at the side. The 0 mm rear clearance means you can mount it flush against a back panel — useful for tight enclosures. The 100 mm top clearance is for cable bending radius and heat dissipation; respect it or the 160 A rating derates.
