Motor current floor and trip class selection
The 3RW5247-6TC14 is rated for a minimum motor current of 200 A — this sets the floor for the soft starter's operating range, not the ceiling. The operating voltage spans 200 to 480 V, covering standard low-voltage motor supplies in North America (208/240/480 V) and Europe (230/400 V). Trip class is configurable as CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A is the standard for most pump and fan starts; switch to 20E only when the load inertia demands a longer acceleration ramp and the upstream protection is coordinated for the extended thermal stress.
Fieldbus connectivity for PLC integration
This soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP — no add-on communication module needed for these four protocols. PROFINET support is also listed, and PROFIenergy is available when used with the PROFINET standard communication module. The Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP ports allow direct connection to a plant-wide control network without a gateway. For existing PROFIBUS lines, the integrated DP interface eliminates a separate bus coupler in the panel.
Physical envelope and mounting constraints
Dimensions are 210 mm wide, 393 mm high, and 203 mm deep — a substantial footprint that requires a backplate cutout or DIN-rail alternative (screw fixing is the listed fastening method). Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm behind — plan the enclosure depth accordingly. Mounting position allows a vertical surface with +/-90° rotation and +/-22.5° tilt forward/backward.
Regulatory approvals and compliance documentation
For documentation packages (RoHS, REACH, IEC declarations), these are available from Siemens' standard document portal; the order code carries the full compliance set.
